2008 Paws for Cures
On September 13, 2008, animal lovers from across Southern California gathered at the private estate of Cathy Wills and Dr. Andy Plisko for the 2nd Annual Paws for Cures Benefit. Over 200 guests enjoyed a gourmet meal under the stars as they listened to the music of the “G” Band. Over $55,000 was raised that night for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation’s animal health studies granting program.
Dr. Richard LeCouteur, President of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and Board-certified neurologist, served as keynote speaker, discussing the philosophy of One Medicine. Two influential women were honored for their work: Dr. Mona Rosenberg, owner, CEO, and Chief of Staff of the Veterinary Cancer Group; and Jane Dempsey, founder of the Old English Sheepdog Rescue of Southern California, Inc. Attendees also heard about Gracie and Beau, two dogs whose stories exemplify the teamwork, expertise, dedication, and compassion of veterinary specialty medicine.
Paws for Cures was also featured in two Orange County Register articles. We would like to thank columnist Maryann Dell for attending the event and for her enthusiastic coverage.
Read Ms. Dell’s articles: "Here's a way to fight diseases that plague our pets" and "Fundraisers give and let those who attend give back".
